The Modius Review {Is this a Weightloss Miracle?}

Disclosure: I was asked to conduct this Modius review as part of a paid partnership with Modius. All words, thoughts and images are — as ever — my own.

I have struggled with my weight my whole adult life.

Granted, I’m not the biggest woman on the planet — 12 on the top and 14 on the hip — but I’m heavy. With excess fat that I can see. And when I’m at my heaviest — like now — my BMI is over 30; which we’re told is unhealthy.

I’ve written on here before about my attempts to slim down — and actually keep the weight off.

Yo Yo Dieting

A habitual dieter from my early teens (the egg and grapefruit diet — I mean — what was that all about?!), to Weightwatchers.

I’ve tried the 5:2 dietunsuccessfully — Dukan (very successful until you start eating ‘normally’ again) and, more recently, I’ve done Slimming World.

I start with the most amazing resolve and do really well initially. My weight drops, my clothes feel looser and I begin to feel really good.

Then I reach a particular weight (the same every time) and start rewarding my ‘good behaviour’ with a chocolate bar — or a cocktail.

Initially the scales seem to stay the same.

Then the numbers begin to creep up — very slowly — a couple of lb here and there… until I’ve put all the weight back on again.

And repeat.

I know the pattern.

It’s almost as though I’m sabotaging my own success, as I just can’t seem to get past that certain number on the scales.

Me — pre Modius. Size 12 on the top and 14 on the hip; weighing in at a hefty 12+ stone.

Weighted All Wrong

As I’ve got older, it’s increasingly becoming harder and harder to shift those pounds too. Age — and the onset of menopause — are an ominous mix when you’re susceptible to weight gain.

Plus my skiing accident a couple of years ago didn’t help matters.

Being unable to move and wearing a leg-brace — 24/7 — for 12 weeks is surefire way of piling on the pounds.

Coupled with the fact that my body seems to gain weight really, really quickly (I can easily put a couple of lb on in a week) but losing it takes double the time. It seems to be weighted all wrong!! I kind of feel that my metabolism is broken.

I’ve often wished that I could get off this merry-go-round of yo-yo dieting. Press a reset button and start again.

So when the team at Modius asked if I’d like to try out their revolutionary weight-loss headset; and conduct my own Modius review I literally jumped at the chance.

Introducing Modius

Modius is the brainchild of Dr Paul McGeoch and Dr Jason McKeown. They developed a high-tech wearable headset, that sends a signal to the area of the brain associated with appetite, cravings and feeling full.

It does this by safely stimulating the nerve on the surface of the skin behind your ear — revolutionising weight loss for thousands of people across the world.

Modius users have reported that, with regular use, they’ve found it much easier to reach their ultimate weight goal.

Sounds amazing right?

Too good to be true

was my first thought, but I’m nothing if not open minded so am really, really excited to test it out.

Particularly — as the little voice in my head keeps reminding me — if it works.

I’m going to be testing out Modius for 90 days; wearing the headset for 5-7 days a week, for an hour a day.

And — hopefully — at the end of the test I’ll be in the 80% bracket of Modius users, who reported a weight loss (rather than the 20% who said it didn’t work for them).

Testing, Testing

I’m a week in already, so can give you my initial thoughts.

For the first two or three sessions, I didn’t like the sensation at all.

I suffer very badly with motion sickness and when the headset was in use, initially, it made me feel really odd. Almost like waves of dizziness (a bit like if you’ve had too much wine and you get room spin).

It was so alarming that I actually felt quite anxious the next day. I almost handed it back and said I didn’t want to continue.

But I persevered and, after the third session, it didn’t feel quite so alien. In fact, I turned up the dial a notch (there are 10 levels altogether).

Now, a week on, I’m actually finding the sessions quite relaxing! I don’t find the sensation as disturbing as the first few times and — I don’t know whether it’s fluke or as a result of using the device but — I lost weight last week. A pound and a half which; was pretty surprising as I didn’t cut down on my calorie intake.

It will be interesting to see how I get on over the next few weeks.

We have a holiday coming up and I generally always come home quite a lot heavier than when I went. It would be amazing to think that I could maintain my weight while I’m away,

I’m not going to diet.

I’m going to try and not think about it at all in fact; but I am going to take Modius with me and  try to have an open mind.

Let’s see what happens eh? Watch this space.
